Calibration for manufacturing

Parts only fit if every gauge on the line reads the same as the drawing. ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 expect inspection and production equipment to be calibrated at set intervals — calipers, micrometers, torque tools and pressure gauges are usually first on the list.

What usually needs calibrating

  • Dimensional

Calipers, micrometers, height and dial gauges used at incoming, in-process and final inspection.

  • Torque and force

Torque wrenches, screwdrivers and force gauges on assembly lines, so every joint is tightened to specification.

  • Pressure and electrical

Gauges on compressed air and hydraulics, and multimeters used by maintenance.
